I'm writing to ask if you would consider my fantasy novel, THE MOON'S ACCOMPLICE.

What happens in a world of enslaved mythological creatures when they start demanding their legal rights? That's the question that THE MOON'S ACCOMPLICE tries to answer, and I'm hoping you'll find it intriguing enough to want to represent me.

When young Teo is sent to the seaport of Tabat, he finds himself embroiled in the city's politics and in desperate peril of enslavement due to his own shapeshifter heritage. He joins forces with a disgraced gladiator, the infamous Bella Kanto, to investigate a mysterious circus, the Autumn Moon, that seems to be at the center of the uprising of the Beasts, intelligent creatures that have historically been slaves to the humans.

Stylistically, THE MOON'S ACCOMPLICE is slightly steampunk, entirely fantasy, and features a city, Tabat, that I hope will join the ranks of other fantasy cities such as Ambergris, Lankhmar, and New Crobuzon. A section of the book appears as a stand-alone story, "Narrative of a Beast's Life," in the December issue of REALMS OF FANTASY.

The book is 124,000 words, and can act as a stand-alone, although it is intended as the first of a trilogy featuring Tabat. I have just finished the first draft of a YA fantasy, PHAT FAIRY (80,000 words) and am working on a new novel tentatively entitled QUEEN OF THE FIREFLIES, which is urban fantasy/horror.

My stories, a number of which are set in the world of THE MOON'S ACCOMPLICE, have appeared in such magazine's as ASIMOV'S, WEIRD TALES, and STRANGE HORIZONS. My collection, EYES LIKE SKY AND COAL AND MOONLIGHT, appeared this summer. I am also the managing editor of the online publication, FANTASY MAGAZINE (http://www.fantasy-magazine.com). I attended the Clarion West Writer's Workshop in 2005.

I hope that you're intrigued enough to want to know more and that you might consider looking at a synopsis, partial, or even the full manuscript. Previously one agent has looked at the manuscript in an exclusive look, but after seven months, we agreed that perhaps I might look for a less beleaguered agent, and I am currently sending out queries to several agents. You were highly recommended by a friend, , who you represent. If you have any questions, you may reach me by phone at , via email at or through postal mail at .
