Query Letter

I'm writing to tell you about my new psychological thriller novel, SOMEONE’S LISTENING (84,673 words.) Think The Woman In Cabin 10 meets The Girl On The Train.

On a bitterly cold night, radio psychologist Faith Finley and husband, Liam, drive home from a swanky party in Chicago, and there’s a crash. When she wakes up in the hospital, she wants to know where Liam is--if he’s okay--but no one can tell her. The medics and police don’t know what she’s talking about. What husband? She’s told she was the only one in the car.

He’s vanished. Through her grief, Faith must spearhead a missing persons search, sure that Liam would never disappear on purpose and that the circumstances are too absurd. The police are of no help because, after a preliminary investigation, it doesn’t qualify as a missing persons case. Too many bits of evidence prove that he doesn't want to be found: missing passport, purchased plane tickets, his phone pinging off towers, even a goodbye note. No matter how it looks, Faith refuses to believe he’d leave.

When Liam finally turns up dead, she’s a suspect. She’s forced to go on the quest of her life to figure out what happened to him, but quickly realizes that he wasn’t the target at all, and her life is in danger. Could it link back to the secrets Liam kept, the media scandal she was involved in before the accident, a former patient who is out for revenge? As she follows the leads, she doesn’t realize how close she actually is to the real killer, and why it’s only a matter of time before she’ll be next.

A little about me:

I am currently a professor of dramatic writing at University of Texas, Arlington and an award-winning playwright with a Master’s degree in Playwriting from Smith College and a second Master’s in theatrical directing.

I tried my hand at screenwriting recently, and I’ve optioned seven of my screenplays in the last 18 months, a few of which I have sold to Hallmark and Darius Films. I also wrote a short film that Ed Asner starred in. It just finished the festival circuit, and I am working on my second novel now.
